With Hail storms and Violent weather common this time of year here are a few reminders of what to do in the event you suffer damage to your Home, Auto or Business.
1. First and foremost remember your property can be replaced, you can’t. Take shelter once the weather turns bad and don’t get hurt by hail or other falling or flying objects while running out
in the storm to roll up your car windows.
2. After the storm is over inspect your property for damage. Insurance companies require you to make temporary repairs to prevent further damage for example if you have a hole in the roof
cover it with a tarp to keep further damage from occurring. If necessary you can hire someone else to do this so you don’t get hurt.
3. Once you have determined you have damage call us to discuss your coverage and deductibles.
Next get written bids from licensed contractors in your area to determine the extent of the damage. Remember you pay the first 500-1000-1500 etc. whatever your deductible is and then the Insurance kicks in. The frequency you have claims is counted against you not the dollar amount. Three “0” paid claims in three years is worse on your record than one hail claim for 25,000 in damage.
4. After verifying your damage is sufficient to warrant filing a claim call us back and we will walk you thru the process. Be sure to keep receipts for anything you have paid for like temporary repairs as they could go towards your deductible.
5. Also remember the State of Texas allows the Insurance company to withhold a portion of the money until they receive proof the repairs or replacement have been completed. All legitimate contractors are aware of this and have no problems with partial payment until work is complete.
6. Remember you can use whomever you choose to make your repairs but pick a contractor or body shop carefully. If you choose who repairs the damage, any future issues with the quality of the repairs, the workmanship and/or materials will be your responsibility. Some Insurance companies will guarantee the work if you use a contractor or body shop of their choosing.
At Strack Insurance we work on behalf of our clients to make sure they get the best coverage for their money by searching among all the different Insurance Companies to find the best coverage’s at the lowest prices.
